7:57PM - i used to think that the day would never come....

It’s time, once again, to write a bulleted journal entry to update the folks who read this about what’s going on in my life and to help me reflect! Exciting, isn’t it?
-I finally got a promotion at work! As of March 22, I will be the Assistant Supervisor for a mental health residential floor. While I’m just kind of breaking even in terms of pay, since my old position made it possible to get a bunch of overtime and my new position is salaried, it will be nice to have a 37.5 hour work week instead of working 44 on average. It is also a vital stepping stone to get into a more administrative/leadership position in nonprofit/human services.
-I have the next 5 days off to get stuff done for my incompletes. My goal is to get caught up in the teaching soc class I’m currently taking, plus getting 2 incomplete finished. Paul is away visiting his parents until Sunday, so I might be less distracted (though I miss him!)
-In an attempt to be less sedentary, I am trying out my local Curves gym. MY intake is tomorrow. I’m going to catch their 30-min workout 2-3 days a week.
-Paul and I have now been together for a little over 3 years now. It is kind of surreal, but wonderful nonetheless. As you can see from our photo that is now my avatar, we are disgustingly adorable together.

Although I have bouts of battling depression, a trying financial matter here and there, and back pain, I think I’m experiencing a whirlwind of serendipity and things are ultimately going to work out.

p.s. I’m voting for Obama in the primary. How about you?

8:53AM - ramblings from post work insomnia

Well, i got off of my midnight shift and have been home for about an hour with no signs of sleepiness. i figured it would be a good time to update anyone who might have an interest in what is going on in my life (and to give myself perspective, but i suppose i could do that without posting it publicly). to digress, i hear the street cleaners outside and forgot (yet again) what day it was, so i bet we have a ticket. bah.

Anyways, it has been 2 months since we moved to swissvale and a little over a month since I started back at the mental health residential job. i haven't done as much as i'd hoped in terms of taking advantage of living in a city, and the missed opportunities/show/etc keep piling up because of work and sharing a car and fatigue and the lack of interest paul shows in going out most of the time, not to mention being poor and unemployed for the first month. I do have some friends who have been wanting be to go out, and maybe now that i don't work friday nights, i can actually accept their invites once in a while (though admittedly, i'm not into the bar scene as they are).

I still have my incompletes over my head, as well as the lack of motivation and mindset to do much about them. Fortunately, profs have been super understanding about it, mostly because they also had incompletes in their grad school days and were very grateful for the profs who showed mercy and understanding to them. I suppose i could rush things and turn in crap, but I have a 4.0 right now and want to keep it.

i was going to ramble on about some personal issues, but lost interest in doing so publicly. i'm also getting to the point that if i were to lay down, i just might be able to sleep. i probably should take advantage of that before i catch yet another wind. it would be one thing if i were productive, but i'm not. and sleep is hot.

oh yeah. i'd really like to get back in touch with people. if you are a person with whom i have lost touch and are feeling like you'd like some danielle in your life again, please do not hesitate to initiate something.

Your Result: Social Nerd

You're interested in things such as politics, psychology, child care, and peace. I wouldn't go so far as to call you a hippie, but some of you may be tree-huggers. You're the type of people who are interested in bettering the world. You're possible the least nerdy of them all; unless you participate in other activies that paled your nerdiness compared to your involvement in social activities. Whatever the case, we could still use more of you around. ^_^

12:55PM - me? traditional?? feh.

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test.We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more artistic mind than engineering mind, more idealist than cynical, more leader than follower, and more extroverted than introverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), intellectual (87%), adventurous (75%), artistic (66%).

Stereotypes
Emo Kid89%
Young Professional82%
Punk Rock80%

Life Experience
Sex63%
Substances41%
Travel32%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 100% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Middle Class. You make more than 0% of those who have taken this test, and 65% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated R.
By the way, your hottness rank is 67%, hotter than 92% of other test takers.

7:51AM - GAH.

i'm hours away from getting away for a few days and spending time with some great people for new years. when i get back, i'll have my last semester of my master's program (with a little less of a hectic schedule since I'm done at the APH at the end of January). then, it is real world time - time to once again be expelled from the womb of academia and face the obsticle course of the job market and student loans and finding somewhere to habitate and getting all our crap there. everytime i starting thinking about it, i need a xanax.

i really like to have these things planned out way ahead of time, but I can't do that. i feel like i don't have control over anything right now but finishing my degree. and without planning in advance, i'm going to have to hope for a whirlwind of serendipity to have everything fall into place in a short time. i can't find a place to live until i find a job, i can't find a job until closer to may because it i look now, the positions will be long filled by the time can start working full time. I see the job postings for which i'm qualified and the deadlines for applications and "to be filled immediately" and worry that the well of opportunities will run dry before i even have a chance. i also must make sure whereever I go, paul can go to school at an affordable rate and hope i'm not fucking his life up too much by uprooting him from IUP if that is the only way i find a worthwhile job. and, of course, if paul is to go to school somewhere else next fall, he needs to apply for a transer within the next 2 months close to where i can find work, which costs money that we don't really. since i have no idea where the hell i am going to be able to find a decent job, he'd have to apply all over the place at $40-$60 an ap. that is just silly! so, yeah, i'm stressed as hell. i hope i can forget about it for the weekend.

-i scored 22 books at bookcloseout.com for less than 4 dollars a book including shipping. they are having a dollar for dollar sale. i had to feed my addiction and have new books to put on my new bookshelf that i will be getting w/ my giftmas cash. i'm such a dork.
-http://www.careerbuilder.com/monk-e-mail/ - customizable talking monkey messages to send to your friends. need i say more?
-this is possibly one of the cutest things ever

6:51AM - treasure hiding

so, paul and i are officially "engaged" for lack of a better word or concept. i mean, we won't be married until/unless it will benefit us in terms of finances/insurance/etc. we aren't very traditional and are both ambivalent about the whole institution of marriage with its roots in transferring ownership of a woman from father to husband. it also doesn't behoove us financially at the moment since paul will get more financial aid if he doesn't have to claim my income when i find a decent job. of course, if said job is at a university that offers tuition waivers to spouses, or just gives a kick-ass benefit package exclusive to married couples, it might be worth tying the knot. i used to have qualms about usurping the privilege of being able to get married since I am with a male partner, but since tony got married, i feel more comfortable. but i digress...

the important thing is that we are very much enamored with each other and have a wonderful relationship that we are both hoping will last a lifetime. there is so much mutual respect, understanding, support, and admiration - i can't imagine life without him.

oh yeah - i totally gave him a ring and proposed (in a less-than-traditional, nonformal way), just to be sure we fuck with gender roles :) he's going to recipricate the ring giving at some point, but there will be no diamonds involved. there is no need to support that evil industry and perpetuate the whole rock pissing contest.

yeah. i have a life partner. it is neat.

12:11AM - moral quiz!

Consequentialist
Your moral values are 39% absolute!
While you shy away from the idea that there is no "right" and "wrong," you attach special weight to the consequences of actions while deciding on their morality. Consequentialists usually come in two varieties, individualist and collectivist. The former is concerned with consequences to the decision-maker, while the collectivist tends to look at consequences for a bigger group, such as a race, a species, or an ecosystem.

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 37% on Absolutism
Link: The How Strict Are Your Morals Test written by roark26 on OkCupid Free Online Dating, home of the The Dating Persona Test

Being the lil pinko that i am, i'm probably more on the collectivist side.

3:42AM - a neat personality test

The Demagogue-CspSO
You scored 57% self-confidence, 53% spontaneity, 58% symbolic-ness, and 79% orbigidity!
The Demagogue

You are: Confident/Semi-Spontaneous/Symbolic/Orbigid

The test tracks 4 variables, which are as follows:

Insecurity v. Self-Confidence (the social sphere)
Spontaneity v. Structuredness* (daily life)
Symbolic-ness v. Literal-ness (way of looking at stuff and, particularly, expressing oneself)
Orbigidity v. Banaciousness (another way of looking at...looking at stuff)

Most of those are pretty straightforward, I think, except the last. I couldn't find the perfect words to describe what I was trying to measure with that variable (my good friend Thesaurus.com was of no help), so I decided to make up new words because I am better than the English language. Basically, orbigidity is the tendency to look closely at everything, to make sure things are thorough, to investigate and often over-analyze people and situations; banaciousness, which we shall call the opposite of orbigidity, is a carefree acceptance of most things without meticulous examination. If, for example, you'd spend hours writing an OKCupid test only to spend more hours going back and checking for typos or any other possible reason the test-takers might think you are stupid or pretentious, then you are probably more orbigid than banacious.

*If your spontaneity score is an uppercase letter ("S" for more structured or "P" for more spontaneous), then it means you take an extreme on one end of the spectrum. The lowercase "sp", however, denotes a way of life that is neither extremely organized/structured/planned nor extremely impulsive.

Yep. So thanks for taking my test and stuff.

6:39AM - i've apparently lost it

oh look. danielle is updating her LJ! i bet it is going to just be another bulleted summary.

* i'm working on.....
* and ummm ......
* my life is....
* grad school something something ummm
* job something

hmm it appears she can't really think about anything interesting to write about. I bet she is just wasting time instead of doing the tons of work she should be doing. i mean, she has that meeting on monday with her tentative thesis committee that she should probably be writing overviews of studies she is thinking of doing. if she could have found her social change books, she could be getting her weekly anti-capitalism paper out of the way. but no. the house ate them. likely excuse!
hmmm well, she can't very well work on the shifting gears webpage because all that stuff is on her laptop and there is no wifi at work. her shift is over soon. then she can sleep.
